It feels like a dark cloud has settled over you, making it hard to find motivation to start your day. You see others smiling and wish you could feel that happiness, but it eludes you. When this happens, your thoughts turn negative, and you start judging yourself. You don’t like feeling down and wish you could control it. Since you can’t, you become anxious and frustrated, thinking you ‘should’ be able to snap out of it.

As counselors offering depression counseling, we understand how confusing this can be. Many people don’t realize that you can’t simply ‘snap out of it.’ There’s no instant fix, but you are not alone, and there are options available to you.

  • Lack of sleep or excessive sleep

  • Excessive crying or lack of emotions

  • Feeling low mood a lot of the time Lack of energy Lack of motivation to complete tasks

  • Difficulty concentrating Lack of enjoyment during activities that used to be enjoyable

  • Thoughts of death or suicide

  • Thoughts of self-harm
